Testing

Tests

The PSAT is the precursor to the SAT. All sophomores and juniors take the PSAT at CCHS in October during the school day.

College entrance exams are part of the application process. The main tests are the SAT reasoning or the ACT. Both tests are accepted at all colleges and universities in the United States. It is suggested that you take both of these exams and then retake them a second time to improve your score. These tests differ in their make up and you should do some investigating to see which test might be better suited for you by looking at their website, reading their published test prep books, or attending a local test prep seminar.

College Board also offers the SAT Subject Tests. Two of these tests are required by the University of California system as well as other colleges or universities, in addition to the SAT Reasoning. You should familiarize yourself with what is required by the college that you are considering.

It is a good idea to begin taking these tests in the Junior year to start planning for your college admission.

Test Prep

There are several reputable companies out there that offer test prep courses. Some courses will even help you decide which test is the better fit for you. Two resources are KAPLAN and Princeton Review who offer local test prep courses, testing diagnostics, and even test prep books.

CCHS also offers our own SAT Prep Course. It is offered twice during the school year, fall and spring. For more information, please view our CCHS Test Prep Course Registration Form.
